When a MEWP is delivered or collected from a site, loading and unloading on the public highway should be avoided wherever possible. The aim is to minimise risk to employees and members of the public by ensuring delivery vehicles park away from public highways and pavements.
CRUSHING CAN KILL - STAY ALERT, STAY ALIVE
Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) are often used to carry out work in areas where there are risks of crushing or entrapment to the platform occupants. Any activity involving MEWPs must be planned and properly managed. Failure to do so can result in injury or death of the platform occupants.
This guidance is intended to: provide information for those who plan and manage MEWP operations; provide information on the main hazards when using a MEWP in pedestrian control mode; provide information on the risk control measures to adopt when using pedestrian controls; provide general global guidance for those who undertake tasks to prevent incidents occurring.

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) announces the launch of its Global Safety Campaign for 2024, titled "CRUSHING CAN KILL!" The third Global Safety Campaign released during IPAF Head of Safety and Technical Brian Parker’s tenure aims to raise awareness and reduce entrapment and crushing incidents involving Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), which have resulted in numerous fatalities and injuries over the past decade.
The IPAF Summit 2024, hosted at the Scandic Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark, that was attended by more than 300 industry professionals, began with a heartfelt and thought-provoking speech by newly elected IPAF President, Karel Huijser. The presentations kicked off with an energetic joint effort by Amanda Tan, IPAF Asia Regional Development Manager, and Diego Bustamante, IPAF Latin America Regional Manager/North America Project Coordinator. Amanda and Diego, representing a new generation of leaders and introducing the summit theme of “Empowering the Next Generation”, highlighted the diverse backgrounds and global coordination within the IPAF team, spanning 14 time zones.
IPAF to hold its first Women in Powered Access webinar, themed ‘Women in Leadership,’ one of three in a series of live webinars, free of charge to both members and non-members.
This is the first webinar in the three-part IPAF Women in Powered Access series an outcome of the IPAF Women in Powered Access Initiative. Host Ali Moore is joined by panellist speakers Oana Samoila, Vicki Allen and Debbie Hameetman.
This webinar includes an in-depth analysis of the current challenges facing this unique sector and looks at how they can be transformed into growth opportunities. Industry guest speakers share their perspectives, examining how they overcame hurdles that you may also be facing, and looking at the approaches and strategies they employed to turn these challenges into success stories. The discussion covers safety and operational efficiency, and how getting these aspects right ultimately supports profitability. IPAF speakers also give the latest updates on safety.
The IPAF Benelux Elevation event was hosted by IPAF on 6 & 7 September in Rotterdam, with more than 70 delegates and speakers participating.
