From billboard installations in cities to the summits of skyscrapers, from viaducts to industrial facilities - any task requiring work at height is made safer and easier thanks to the use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs). The largest event in Türkiye dedicated to this vital sector, Platform Gunleri, will take place on September 18–20, 2025, at Istanbul Tuzla Autodrom.

IPAF Webinar: Highlights of IPAF's Global Safety Report 2025
This insightful webinar will introduce and highlight key trends from IPAF’s Global Safety Report 2025 – the second digital edition, in which we analyse the accident data from 2024. Presented in a digital-only format, the report is designed to enhance accessibility for a global audience and align with IPAF's sustainability objectives. It allows users to interact with data, filter and navigate to explore emerging trends and key challenges. The data can be segmented by industry sector, country, location, and the categories of machines involved.
Data is collected on Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWPs) and Construction Hoists (CHs) and the report covers fatal and major incidents only. Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your understanding of global MEWP safety trends and how they can shape your own safety strategies.
Save the date for the upcoming IPAF Professional Development Seminar (PDS) for the UK & Ireland. The PDS this year will take place virtually over Zoom and is aimed at IPAF instructors and IPAF Approved Training Centre staff; all instructors will receive a CPD certificate for attendance. If you haven't received the booking link to join, please email info@ipaf.org.
This notice is valid as of 12 June 2025. It is reviewed periodically and at least annually to ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation and legislative requirements defined by law, where appropriate. It is applicable for the following users:
Familiarisation is required prior to operating any MEWP that is significantly different in weight, height, length or complexity to the MEWP on which training took place. The operator, supervisor, nominated ground rescue personnel, service engineer/ technician and demonstrator all need adequate familiarisation of the MEWP prior to undertaking their duties.

BICES - Beijing International Construction Machinery Exhibition
Formerly established by the Machinery Ministry of China in 1989 and held every other year since then, China (Beijing) International Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines and Mining Machines Exhibition ( BICES) has grown from what was originally a domestic new products and new technology show to be one of leading international trade fairs for construction, building and mining machinery in Asia with over 1,000 exhibitors and more than 150,000 visitors from China and overseas markets.
IPAF will be exhibiting at Vertikal Days 2025 on stand 426. This year’s stand will focus on two key areas: the IPAF 2025 safety campaign Stop Overturns! and emergency MEWP rescue and recovery procedures.
As part of the Stop Overturns! campaign, IPAF member machines will be used to demonstrate potential hazards that can lead to Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) overturns. These demonstrations will highlight common issues such as poor ground/surface conditions, incorrectly applied outriggers and pads, and unstable or sinking ground.
Inside the well-known IPAF tent, visitors can view videos from the Share Your Story campaign, which encourages operators to speak up about near misses and incidents to help improve safety. IPAF will also showcase a new member benefit focused on sustainability pathways, supporting members in their environmental goals.
Safety demonstrations on MEWP recovery and rescue will take place throughout the two-day event, led by IPAF’s Head of Safety & Technical, Brian Parker. He will also introduce and discuss the new guidance document The Principles of MEWP Recovery and Rescue, which will be officially launched during the show.
IPAF members have the opportunity to display their machines on the IPAF stand to demonstrate the safety campaign, if you are interested send an email to events@ipaf.org.
Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) Category 3a (e.g., scissor lifts) are sometimes fitted with extension decks, these can be single, or double deck extensions. The purpose of an extension deck is to provide additional horizontal outreach beyond the main deck of the platform.
This Toolbox Talk provides information on the types of hazards that can cause collisions/impacts and suggests ways to reduce the likelihood of these incidents occurring.
IPAF’s Global Safety Report 2025 reveals a notable decrease in fatalities involving powered access equipment, despite only a slight reduction in overall reported incidents. The findings are based on comprehensive analysis of incidents submitted through its global Accident Reporting Portal.
When working in a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) at height, you must be aware of the risk of tools, materials and equipment falling from the platform with the potential to injure people working at ground level. It is essential that any items likely to fall are properly secured within the envelope of the platform’s guardrails.

It is with deep sadness that the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) acknowledges the passing of Hans Aarse – a passionate advocate for safety in powered access, a long-standing supporter of IPAF, and a dear friend to many in our industry.
