IPAF makes progress on new service technician framework

IPAF has made significant progress formulating a new MEWP service technician framework, with a new apprenticeship standard accepted for consultation, the first IPAF-recognised MEWP service technicians training now available and an exclusive offer for IPAF members to undertake advanced engineering courses with TVH linked to IPAF’s Service Technician/Engineer career pathway.

At the same time, Training for Hire is now offering IPAF members exclusive rates on six modules that can lead to a level two Plant Maintenance NVQ qualification, as well as earning three points towards IPAF’s Competent Assessed Person (CAP) qualification.

Meanwhile, a new Level three Lift Truck and Powered Access Engineering Technician Standard proposal has been approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships (IFA) and work has begun on the end-point assessment with the next meeting planned for 8 October. There is also a Hire Controller apprenticeship that is now at the end-point assessment stage.

Richard Whiting, IPAF’s UK General Market Manager, who is taking the lead on developing the new pathways towards becoming a fully qualified MEWP service technician, says: “I would like to thank the UKCC Service Technician roadmap working group in particular for all their help in getting us this far. I also urge interested parties to review and comment when consultation opens as it is important that the trailblazer groups and IFA consider all responses before making an apprenticeship live.”
