Life's a beach as IPAF brings Don’t Fall for It! safety message to JDL Expo

Visitors to the JDL Expo in Beaune, in the Burgundy region of France, on 22-24 June, are invited to join representatives of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) “on the beach” on Stand A49, to sip mocktails while taking a short safety quiz on their smartphone.

The quiz is based on IPAF’s Don’t Fall For It! safety campaign – aimed at reducing falls from the MEWP platform – and the stand’s beach theme is to remind visitors to the show that, while it is holiday season, we should never take a holiday from safety. Those completing the quiz can claim a pair of IPAF sunglasses and a straw beach hat (while stocks last).

Brian Parker, IPAF’s Head of Safety & Technical, says: “With this safety campaign, IPAF is saying that, if you find yourself tempted to do something different to what you know is the right and proper way to work, or if ever asked to do something you think just isn’t safe by a colleague or supervisor, then ‘don’t fall for it!’ Better to think twice and save a life – whether it is a workmate’s or your own. At the JDL Expo, our experts will be on hand to discuss all aspects of operational safety and training requirements for safe work at height using MEWPs.”

Visitors to the “IPAF beach” at the event will also be able to discuss the latest initiatives and membership benefits, including the Women in Powered Access initiative, which aims to recognise and celebrate the contributions of women in powered access, as well as outlining career paths for women both already in the industry and those looking to enter it. The initiative is inspired by Karin Nars, the first woman elected to the role of IPAF President when she was confirmed at the IPAF AGM in London in March.

Christine Lell, IPAF Representative for French-speaking territories, says: “We hope both existing members and those considering joining us will visit our IPAF beach – it’s a bit of fun but the safety messages underpinning it are very serious. Increasingly, companies can see the potential in joining the IPAF family, whether that is setting themselves apart from the competition through becoming an audited, accredited IPAF Training Centre or joining in a specific member category that will assist them in meeting set business objectives, such as the IPAF Safety Professional membership.

“We have also just announced that selected IPAF members are eligible to claim a free version of our Global Powered Access Rental Market Report, now the 2022 edition of the award-winning publication has been published – a significant addition to the growing package of IPAF membership benefits. We look forward to outlining the details of this offer, and the wider benefits IPAF membership, to anyone who wishes to join us ‘on the beach’ during this event!”
