Mounting or remounting an aerial device onto a new or different vehicle chassis than the original chassis supplied by the manufacturer is a specialist task that requires both in-depth engineering knowledge and consideration of the aerial device and vehicle manufacturer’s technical specifications.

If attempted by an individual lacking the necessary skills and expertise, remounting an aerial device can be a real danger to users and bystanders. The individual or company remounting the aerial device (known as the Responsible Person) becomes legally responsible as the manufacturer of the aerial device.

A remounted aerial device will need to be certified to demonstrate it conforms to the required design standards of the region in which it is intended to be used.

ITEMS TO CONSIDER BEFORE REMOUNTING:

IPAF recommends contacting the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the machine prior to commencing the remounting.

The obligations of the Responsible Person are:

1. Do not place the machine in the market or put it into service unless it is safe.
2. Ensure that a Technical File is compiled and made available on request.
3. Satisfy all Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSR).
4. Provide information on how to operate the machine safely.
5. Carry out the relevant conformity assessment procedure.
6. Create a Declaration of Conformity and make sure
that a copy accompanies the machine.
7. Affix the relevant conformity marking to the machine.
8. Prepare assembly instructions and a Declaration of Incorporation and ensure that both documents accompany the machine.

CAUTION: FAILURE TO REMOUNT AN AERIAL DEVICE CORRECTLY CAN, AND HAS, LED TO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS WORLDWIDE.
