This webinar will look at the safe use of construction hoists and transport platforms. The webinar topics will cover compliance, responsibilities and training when using construction hoists. 

We will share IPAF’s recent statement on the misuse of Transport Platforms, accident statistics and recent case studies. These incidents highlight the significant human and financial costs when equipment is not used as intended.

An industry member will provide insight into the importance of compliance with applicable regulations and standards. While not prescriptive, this section will outline how improved awareness and shared responsibility across the supply chain, from manufacturers to end users, are key to improving safety outcomes. 

The presentations will conclude by highlighting how appropriate training supports compliance and helps prevent future incidents. Clear roles, responsibilities, and access to training are essential in protecting both people and projects. 

Speakers: 

	Craig Hook is the Head of Lifting for Sir Robert McAlpine, a company that owns and operates its own fleet of construction hoists and tower cranes. He also serves as a committee member for MHE/6 – Construction Hoists, which is responsible for BS7212 (Safe use of hoists) in the UK. Additionally, he has contributed to the re-write of EN1495 (Design of MCWPs) and BS7981 (Safe use of MCWPs). He will also be a committee member involved in the development of the new European super standard for the design of all building hoists and transport platforms.
	Brian Parker is Head of Safety & Technical at IPAF. He has worked in the powered access industry for over 25 years, formerly working for IPAF Member AFI-Uplift. He holds a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety and is also a Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Brian has been an IPAF Instructor for over 20 years and represented on many committees during this time. He carries out work on UK and International committees i.e. BSI Committee MHE12/1, CEN/TC/98/WG1 and ISO/TC214 Committee. He proudly served in the UK Forces - Royal Engineers for 8 years with overseas operational tours.
	Rupert Douglas-Jones has worked with the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) for over 17 years in roles including International Training Manager and Technical Officer. His experience spans training, legal matters, and accident investigations, giving him a broad understanding of the industry's challenges. As Alimak Group’s Construction Training Manager, he now focuses specifically on Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWP), Hoists, and Transport Platforms. Through both the Competent Assessed Persons (CAP) Committee and the IPAF Training Committee, he aims to improve standards and, as the manufacturer’s training lead for the construction sector, help raise global training standards for this equipment.
