  • The 24th edition of the APF Exhibition, held from 19-21 September, was a fantastic opportunity for IPAF to engage with the wider forestry and arboriculture community.   • Tony Groat, North America Regional Manager for IPAF, has been honoured as Person of the Year at the ALH Awards 2019 in San Diego, California, for his work to promote MEWP safety and training and in developing new US and Canadian standards.

  • Senior representatives of IPAF have given more feedback to the UK All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) of MPs looking into falls from height in the workplace at a recent meeting in Westminster, including a review of IPAF’s accident reporting project.

  • Representatives of IPAF will be at ELECTEX in Cork, Ireland, on 26 April, the first time the federation has had a standalone presence at a trade show in the Republic.

  • This notice is to formally advise members that the next Annual General Meeting of the International Powered Access Federation will take place at 16:30 (UK) on 23 April 2020. The meeting is conducted in English and for this reason the documents are available only in English.

  • All valid PAL Cards issued by IPAF to operators of MEWP or MCWPs worldwide are now Smart cards. PAL Cards must be renewed every five years; every PAL Card issued since 1 January 2015 has featured Smart technology to assist in preventing fraud and unauthorised machine use.

  • A special Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) control test rig has been travelling the world since its debut at the APEX 2017 event in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in May, and most recently has been on three major UK construction sites to gather data to help the global standards body make recommendations as to the best way to standardise MEWP controls worldwide.

  • The IPAF Summit & IAPAs scheduled to be held in London, UK, on 18 March 2021, is to go ahead as a digital event, with delegates joining online from around the work, to allow maximum certainty for those planning to attend during the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Why do you need rescue procedures? A robust, documented rescue procedure is required to lower the Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) platform occupants in case of a malfunction or emergency. Any delay in rescuing the MEWP platform occupants may be the difference between life and death.

  • The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) keeps up its safety push in China and wider South East Asia this week by taking a stand at the first ever edition of APEX Asia, which runs 31 October-3 November in Shanghai. Visitors to the first ever Asian edition of the popular APEX expo event hosted every three years in Europe by Industrial Promotions International (IPI) will find IPAF on stand G4-1 in hall N1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC).

  • A new document has been produced by IPAF explaining what a MEWP Safe Use Program is and why users need to have one in place. The document is a guide to the requirement, part of updated ANSI A92 standards that went into effect during 2020.
