IPAF presentation at SaMoTer

SaMoTer 2026

On Thursday 7 May at SaMoTer in Verona, Italy – in Hall 9 – a conference entitled ‘Accidents involving MEWPs: Is technological innovation enough to prevent them?’ will take place at 11.15 am, featuring Maurizio Quaranta, Regional Manager at IPAF, and Mauro Potrich, H&S Manager at CTE.

This presentation explores a key question in the powered access industry: is technological innovation alone sufficient to prevent accidents involving MEWPs?

Drawing on data from the IPAF Accident Reporting Portal and the Global Safety Report, it highlights how the main causes of serious incidents - such as falls from height, overturns, and electrocution - have remained largely consistent over time, despite continuous technological advancements.

The presentation demonstrates that while innovation - through advanced safety systems, telematics, and improved machine design - plays a crucial role in reducing risk, it cannot eliminate human error or poor decision-making.

It therefore argues that meaningful accident reduction can only be achieved through a balanced approach combining data analysis, technological evolution, operator training, proper machine management, and compliance with technical standards.

The conclusion is clear: technology is a powerful enabler, but safety ultimately depends on people, processes, and culture working together towards a common goal of zero accidents.
