IPAF’s regional meetings are an informal opportunity to meet other members, hear from a range of speakers and discuss the role of IPAF.

The Scotland Regional Meeting is hosted by Carl Evans, HSS Training Operations Director. The agenda is as follows:

18.40 MENTAL HEALTH IN THE WORKPLACE
The HSS Training Building Mental Health course is a Tool Box Talk designed to raise awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding mental health in the workplace such as stress, anxiety, and depression.  It aims to break down the stigma associated with such conditions and outline the importance and significance of starting a conversation.  The course offers a wealth of information and signposting sources; and presents helpful tips on keeping your own mental health in a positive state.  Attendees will receive an industry recognised, Bronze level Mental Health Awareness hard hat decal as acknowledgement of their attendance and contribution.

19.05 ADDRESSING THE SKILLS GAP
On average 14,000 people leave the armed forces annually. With the depth of skills and qualifications available through their military service they are fast becoming a highly sought after candidate pool. Industries experiencing a lack of skills and trained personnel are plugging the skills gap by employing ex-military.

19.25 PRE DELIVERY INSPECTIONS v THOROUGH EXAMINATIONS
The presentation will consist of what is expected to be completed within a PDI for MEWPS, as well as what constitutes a Thorough Examination of a MEWP, set out in schedule 1 of LOLER 98. These checks are necessary to verify that the lifting equipment can continue to be safely used. This presentation concentrates on thorough examination and inspection, and the reporting and record-keeping obligations of LOLER (regulations 9, 10 and 11) EC declarations of conformities.

Richard will give an overview and update on the work of IPAF, including MEWPs for Managers and how members can get more involved as well as reporting on accident statistics.
