Management & Supervisor Training

Warehouse scenario from the new IPAF MEWPs for Managers training course

Operate legally and safely

MEWPs for Managers (formally AWPs for Managers) is aimed at those who plan, supervise or manage temporary work at height with Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), also known as Aerial Work Platforms (AWPs) and can assure compliance with new requirements for supervisor training in the new ANSI A92 suite of standards in the US. Can be completed via eLearning or at an IPAF-approved training centre (one day course).

About the course

Companies that use MEWPs need to know what their management and legal responsibilities are and how to ensure the most effective use of MEWPs. This course covers what managers and supervisors need to know for safe and effective use of MEWPs on site, including planning the job, conducting a risk assessment, selecting the right equipment for optimum cost-efficiency and mitigating all possible risks.

In most countries, there is a requirement for employers to train all employees who plan, supervise or manage work at height and the use of equipment for such work.

  • Do you know what your legal obligations are?
  • Have you selected the right machine for the job at hand?
  • Who is operating MEWPs on your site and have they been trained and familiarised?
  • Have you considered the potential hazards and taken preventive measures?

This training course will help you answer these questions and prepare you to safely and effectively manage MEWPs on site.

Who should take this course?

Employers, project managers, foremen and supervisors working in a broad range of industries such as construction, facilities management, retail, airports, and arboriculture. Anyone who is responsible for planning and supervising the use of MEWPs on their job site.

This course is about planning, supervising and managing the use of MEWPs, and not about operating equipment. It ends with a written test that candidates must pass. Upon successful completion of the theory test, candidates will receive an IPAF certificate. Those who hold a valid Powered Access Licence for operating equipment can have the MEWPs for Managers (MM) category added to their PAL Card.

The eLearning version of the IPAF MEWPs for Managers course enables candidates to undertake the tuition in convenient sections and pass the online course at
a time and place of their choosing, on compatible PCs and tablet devices. It utilizes sophisticated facial recognition across the online training and evaluation session to ensure the candidate’s identity and to prevent any attempt to obtain the qualification through fraudulent means.
