A farewell to Lars-Petter Godenhielm

2011/02/11

IPAF has received the sad news that Lars-Petter Godenhielm, owner of Finnish manufacturer Dinolift and a former president of IPAF, passed away on 8 February 2011, following a serious illness. He was 70.

Godenhielm served on the IPAF Council for many years and saw the Federation through some difficult economic times, when funding through membership subscriptions was limited. He was President from 1999 to 2001. He pushed forward the concept of CAP (Competent Assessed Person) assessments, which came into being much later after his presidency. He introduced greater scrutiny of the accounts and business involvement in the daily running of the Federation.

“Lars-Petter was one of the first IPAF Presidents from outside the UK and the only one from a Scandinavian country,” said Steve Shaughnessy, current president of IPAF. “His presidency coincided with the early years of the IPAF training programme and was a period of great growth for the Federation. He will be sorely missed through the industry and by his many friends on the IPAF Council past and present. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues at Dinolift.”

“Lars was someone who really contributed to IPAF in its years of early growth,” said IPAF CEO Tim Whiteman. “He had a true vision for IPAF and put a lot of effort into setting the Federation on the right path to becoming a truly international organisation. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

Godenhielm took an active role in the business activities of Dinolift until the very end, although he had stepped down from operational management in mid-January.

In the early 1990s, Godenhielm was appointed managing director of Bronto Skylift, which launched his career in the powered access industry. He then acquired the Loimaa-based manufacturer of Dino trailer-mounted work platforms and began what he later described as the happiest period in his entire career, being an entrepreneur in an expanding business.
