In 2022, IPAF President Karin Nars launched the 'Women in Powered Access' initiative, inviting women of all ages and different professional roles to share their stories of inclusivity. The initiative includes a number of key actions, including providing a platform to tell the stories of women in powered access in both the media and at industry events. IPAF will also use its own print, web and social media platforms to share these inspirational case studies and will also continue to invite prominent women speakers to present at IPAF events. IPAF will share a series of case studies at  www.ipaf.org/casestudy to communicate the opportunities our industry offers women.

What is your role in powered access? I am the office and supply chain co-ordinator at Industrial Construction (Sussex) Limited (ICS), a roofing and cladding company in the southeast of England.

How did you come into this industry and what attracted you to it? When I left college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do; I had never considered a career in construction or roofing. Until I started at ICS more than 11 years ago, I wasn’t aware of the many career paths and opportunities within the industry. I started as a receptionist dealing with admin, then was promoted to contracts assistant, working alongside contracts managers running projects, where I learnt about powered access and was soon coordinating all plant on behalf of the company.

What do you find inspiring about your role? Having a varied role means no two days are the same. It’s great to be able to liaise with multiple people, in varying companies and build relationships. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new and improve yourself.

Where do you see yourself in five years and what do you want to achieve? ? I have no idea what the next five years hold, but I hope to continue to learn and develop myself as well as help those around me.

What one piece of advice would you give to other women in/thinking of entering the industry ? Work hard and follow your dreams. Be yourself, and you can do anything you put your mind to!

“No two days are the same: Every day is an opportunity to learn something new and improve yourself.”
